Turnout boots are designed to shield feet from heat, sharp objects, and water during firefighting, not to guard against biological or radiological exposure. They lack a sealed barrier and decontamination capability needed to prevent contact with bio agents or radioactive materials. For hazmat or radiological threats, a specialized protective ensemble (including impermeable PPE and proper boot protection) is required. So turnout boots do not protect against biological or radiological hazards.
